Justice for Cayo angry protesters Burning tires and sixth charge's by Police Miguel Segura

In the early hours of Tuesday morning heavy protesting crowd in the entrance of Benque Viejo Del Carmen blocked the George Price Highway. Angry protesters used tires to block the road and light it with fire.

 The residents where demanding justice for the accident that occur on Saturday August 16, 2014. The tragedy involved an intoxicated Deputy Commissioner Police Miguel Segura collided head-on  with a taxi that was driven at the time by Cu and a passenger which left twenty-eight-year-old Yanie Cu fitting to life at the KHMH. Cu's mother of five Azucena Cu said that she saw police not doing much at her daughter's accident. 

But, because their was not a breathalyzer they tested his blood.  With the awaiting court charges in the afternoon on Tuesday August 19, 2014 in Belmopan the Magistrates Court, Police Department had final charged Deputy Commissioner Miguel Segura sixth charge which read:  They include manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, drove motor vehicle without due care and attention, driving with alcohol concentration above prescribed limit, negligent grievous harm and failing to alter direction to give way. 

Bail was admitted with a sum of $6,000.00 plus anothr payment of the same amount or two sureties of $3,000.00 each on the condition that he will not be able to interfere with the witness and he will be reporting to the Benque Police Station every Friday, and will appear at every court date if he does not commit any offence while on bail. The matter was resumed until October 9 2014.

PRESS RELEASE - Minister Hulse Visit to Taiwan

At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hon. Sen. Godwin Hulse, Minister of Labour, Local Government, Rural Development, National Emergency Management and Immigration and Nationality, has concluded a five day visit to Taiwan from August 11th, to 15th, 2014. 

During his visit, Minister Hulse met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Simon Ko, as well as Director General of Bureau of Consular Affairs, Hon. Kung Chung-chen  and the Acting Minister of Labout Dr. HAO Feng-min. 

In keeping with the friendly and cooperative relations between Belize and Taiwan, Minister Godwin Hulse signed a memorandum of understanding between the Minister of Labour, Local Government Rural Development, National Emergency Management and immigration and Nationality of Belize, and the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of China (Taiwan), relating to cooperation in Immigration Affairs and Human Trafficking Prevention. 

The MOU seeks to promote cooperation between Immigration Agencies of both countries on the issue of transnational crimes, and particular human trafficking, through the exchange of information and promotion of capacity building. 

The signing ceremony took place at Ministry of Interior of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and was witnessed by Her Excellency Ms. Cherie Nisbet, Ambassador of Belize to Taiwan, along with R.O.C Government Officials including the Director- General of National Immigration Agency Hon. Mo Tien-hu, Deputy Director- General of National Immigration Agency. 

minister Hulse also visited the new Taipei City Government and exchanged experience about national emergency policies with an aim to exchange ideas and best practices for the further strengthening of bilateral relations between Belize and the Republic of China. ( Taiwan).

Carlos Perrote 2014 Concert

Steel band music, it has made a comeback and no where is it more alive than in students. Students learn basically rhythms, different kinds of rhythms, just technique to play the pan and to play different kinds of instruments. in Steel Drum you need to practice. The steel band is just like another instrument. It isn't different. For a violin you have to practice and for steel band you have to practice. In this purpose, the first objective is to introduce the children to music. Carlos Perrote wants.

Their are over 5,000 instruments percussion  to be learnt and 10 year's of experience. "Its like going into steps by step to reach the goal of music." Carlos Perrote explained to the students while practicing. 


The groups where divided into two groups: the Morning Group (Beginner's) and the Afternoon Group (Advanced).This year's Music Summer Camp took place on July 28th to August 15th (Concert Day). On the first week of preparation for the Summer Camp 2014 the students had to learn the different types of instruments. But, for those who were familiar with on last year's practice they made a quick catch up with the every step they did.

It is to show Belize who we are so we try and bring musicians from different corners, different talents says perrote. he brings a lot to the table in terms of Belizean advancement of music here in Belize and we would be really nice for not just musicians but for those who like his music to come out and support.

This year's event the children were very interested to learn how to practice the instruments. But, it was challenging on the way to learn it but it got very easy. Their where over 30 students who learnt the instruments. The groups were divided into the piano lesson, guitar, steel drum and the precaussion.
Certificate were given to the students who participated on the Summer Camp. We would like to thank Mayor Daniel for giving a kind donation for advancing the instruments upgrade. Mayor Daniel said that he wants to see this Summer Camp to continue in the island and to make students take this opportunity of learning music.

History of the San Joaquin Fiesta

In Bacalar, Quintana Roo, Mexico for many years the feast of San Joaquin is celebrated on August 16. Many Belizeans, especially from the North traveled to Bacalar for this celebration, families and people from San Joaquin also assist. Families would say that they are not missing a San Joaquin Fiesta in Bacalar.

Seeing the number of families that were attending to the Fiesta of San Joaquin in Bacalar, Mrs. Angelita Magaña thought on the idea that our village which bears the name of San Joaquin can celebrate the feast day in our own village, San Joaquin. She mentioned her idea to members of the community who supported it to make it a reality. With the help of young people and members of the village Mrs. Magaña raised funds to buy one large image of San Joaquin. She founded the fiesta which is celebrated by our Church in August 1967.

The first fiesta was inaugurated by very Honorable George C. Price. This celebration was held at the primary school in San Joaquin. The first Queen of the fiesta was Maria Pol. After celebrating the first fiesta in the school, in 1969 it was celebrated in the new Park grounds of San Joaquin in a place which was more spacious and close to the new Catholic Church. Today in the year 2004 we celebrate the 38th anniversary of our annual Fiesta. The fiesta each year has been rather larger. It begins with the Novenas to our Patron Saint on August 8th. The Novenas for many years have been prayed by Mr. Luis Puck. On the 8th of August a group of youths organized by Mrs.Angelita Magaña run a marathon with a torch from Bacalar to San Joaquin. The runners arrive just before the first novena begins. From the torch they lit the veladoras for the first novena.

Many believers visit the Church to attend mass on August 16 and many of the visitors come to venerate San Joaquin and on one side of the image they light their candles, bring him flowers and make prayer. Many come to thank for the intercession, ask for his intercession or fulfill the promise to come every year. Visitors come from all the districts of Belize and some from Chetumal, Mexico.

The students of the Second San Pedro Music Summer Camp under the direction of Maestro Carlos Perrote cordially invite everyone to their graduation concert. Prime Minister Dean Barrow Leaves the Country

The Prime Minister Office informs that Prime Minister Honorable Dean Barrow had left the country on Tuesday, 12th August, 2014 on Government business in addition to two days personal leave. A brief statement from the Government of Belize didn't specify on why he had left the country. The only saying that he went "on Government business in addition to two days personal leave." He returns on Saturday August 16th, 2014. While the Prime Minister’s abs ency, Hon. Gaspar Vega, Deputy Prime Minister, will be acting as Prime Minister of Belize.

Plans for a project to be Built by Orange Walk Mayor Kevin Bernard if its Approved

Mayor Kevin Bernard is planning a project to be built If permitted, this is the plan that the Town Council have for the Riverside development project. These are privately owned properties but permission is being sought for the Town Council to be able to develop this area. The project proposal is being finalized and we will be submitting this to funding agencies.

Winner's of the National Song Competition held in Belize City

It happened at the MCC grounds in Belize City which came alive on Saturday night as the venue for the National Song competition. Nineteen performers in the Junior Patriotic, Senior Patriotic and Senior Carnival song Categories showcased their talents onstage to the public and the judges.

Bart’s Bash World Wide Sailing Club competition and San Pedro Sailing Club Competition

When it comes to having the greatest sailing club in San Pedro which is held every month the competition is very tight with the other teams in the country. Last month the team of San Pedro Sailing club won another champion of winning their competition. On this link you can see where the sailing stars will race on 21st September.

 Next week weekend the Sailing Club will gather another time to see who will win the other competition. Race starts at 10am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday August 23rd and 24th. 

But this races aren't only races to be race is are all practice and knowing the how to race while the wind is blowing. Well the good news today on September 21st worldwide all Sailing Club around the world will race at the same time and will be awarded for the most points around the world.Time will be mentioned soon.

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation is pleased to announce the finalised Guinness World Record criteria which sailing clubs have to comply with to count towards the world record attempt, and for participants to be ratified as world record holders.

A key update is that for a race to count towards the record it must have 25 boats taking part, rather than 25 sailors as previously communicated.

The newly finalised criteria include:

• There must be at least 25 participants, i.e. 25 boats taking part at each location. If a club has less than 25 participating boats, it will not be able to participate in the Guinness attempt, however we still welcome the club’s participation in the Bart’s Bash race and the club will still be able to submit the results for entry into the worldwide leaderboard.
• The race start time and finish time must take place between 00.00 on the 21st September GMT and 23.59 on the 21st September GMT. 
• The distance of the course will need to be measured accurately using GPS. The course must be at least 1km long. This can be multiple laps of a shorter course.
• The race must be at least 15 minutes long. 
• The race will need to have a single start and finish point (start line one side of the committee boat and finish line the other side is acceptable).
• All clubs wishing to enter the Guinness world record attempt must have 2 independent witnesses. 
• Clubs need 1 steward per 50 entrants; these can be safety boat drivers and crew.

Registration for clubs closes on 14th September 2014. Individual online entries will close on 19th of September. Anyone wishing to sign up after this date will be able to do so at the clubs directly.

PM says Polyclinic in San Pedro to get a 24 hour full service

On July 30th while Prime Minister was in a Conference Prime Minister Dean Barrow mentioning an upgrade for the Polyclinic in San Pedro. The PM also said that government is taking into consideration the need for a 24 hour clinic on the island. He also stated that he will upgrade Belize City's Hospital with better service and equipment's. 

“We’ve now signed the contract for San Pedro Town. I had indicated that we wanted to do some rehabilitation of the road going to North Ambergris as soon as you jump the bridge coming out of San Pedro Town. We will resurface that road; we are going to fix that up nicely and it’s going to be from the bridge to about Coco Beach Hotel. I think it’s a little over three miles of road so that’s good news for San Pedro. I know that they have been complaining, this is a different type of infrastructure, about the need of a 24 hour polyclinic, and we are working on that with the Ministry of Health; so, I can promise the people of San Pedro that that is as well going to happen.”He said at conference meeting

UPDATE: BML workers trash Belize City in front of the town Hall

The argument between Belize City Council and BML today infront of the court, Belize City Council will not renew the contract for Belize Maintenance Limited in 2014. Money that was owed to the company is weeks on behind arrears. That's over 1.48 million dollars owed to the BML workers.  Employees of BML trashed some part  of the city this morning near the police station on Queen Street and City Hall and on North Front Street. According to the PUP, one of its political radio talk show hosts, Albert Vaughn was wrongfully hiding the event and he was detained. 

On August 5th, 2014 an all day arrangement was made over BML workers. Forty-one Sanitation Workers where charged for Loitering and Littering Following Protest.  The workers who claim that they haven't received any payment for nineteen weeks and it will go into serenity manner when it was announced to the workers meaning (Lay-off)(rejected).

 Their is no timetable by the company is to when the workers will be paid. Because BML cannot continue to manage paying the works Mayor made a strong statement with the pile of garbage. With the angry workers they threw garbage in front of the city hall. Over Forty workers where then locked up through-out the day of Monday then spent all day at court and where then charged a ticket fine of $500 hundred each.

Angry workers explained how they where mall treated in the cell left without food and water. Some explained it was not an political involvement but to pay them as they suppose too. All charges where made at an old charge sheet instead of the new one. Since the charges where made that way the split charges could be made among all which is  not possible. At the Court everyone was placed at different court room. twenty two where charged and rest was left for Wednesday August 6th. When asked by Mayor Bradley about the angry people he rejected the media and fled the scene. 

Wooden structure destroyed by fire at Spanish Lookout

On August 2nd at around 12pm a wound structure caught on fire. The Spanish Lookout Rescue team firemen proved capable today when a lumberyards dryer caught fire. Thank you for your service and also for the rest of the community that came out to help Big thank you to the volunteers of the Spanish Lookout Fire Department, thanks to the SLRT for dispatching help, and a big thanks to everyone that came to help.

We were still able to save a good bit of lumber. Although the dryer is a complete loss the stove will  still be usable.

Belize and Israel: A Comentary for freedom an unholy Alliance

The unholy alliance between the Belizean governments both past and present with the occupiers of Palestinian land, the so-called state of Israel, is one of the biggest failures in Belize’s foreign policy. It will surely go down as the disgraceful use of elitist power which defies our socio-historical experience, morality and diplomacy strategies.

The modern state of Israel is a recent imposition. Most Belizeans both at home and abroad are likely not aware that before the land of the Palestinians was considered by the imperialist powers of Britain and the United States as a “homeland” for the so-called Jews of Europe, Belize was also on the top of their list.

Indeed, this was acknowledged by an Israeli ambassador in a recent visit to Belize: “In the beginning of the century there were a few ideas about where to build the new Jewish state. We were talking about Uganda in Africa, we were talking about Belize and other places,” said Israeli Ambassador Mattanya Cohen in 2009.

It was known that the region of Central America was far too hot for these Europeans. It was the mild Mediterranean climate of Palestine which became the selected location for the unjust invasion and establishment of an Israeli state. The people of Palestine were driven from their land and pushed behind the barb wire of concentration camps – which are now the bombarded Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Belizeans must realize that the Israeli apartheid regime, which holds our brothers and sisters hostage in their own lands, has been the greatest supporter of the genocidal military oligarchy in Guatemala. And Guatemala, as we are well aware, is a sworn enemy to the Belizean people with an unfounded territorial claim over Belize.

When Belize campaigned for international support from the United Nations to achieve independence, Israel was not Belize’s ally. In fact, Israel was one of the main suppliers of arms and ammunition to Guatemala. This created a mood of war during the 1970s (see former Belize Minister of Foreign Affairs Assad Shoman’s “Belize’s Independence and Decolonization in Latin America” (2010) pp. 107, 137, 146).

Israel consistently abstained from voting on the resolutions that were introduced to secure Belize’s independence (see Shoman, 2010). This was done in order for Israel to remain an ally of Guatemala. The power elites of Israel would have benefited if Belize and Guatemala had entered a war because they were going to be the main suppliers of arms and ammunitions.

In the past, the George Price People’s United Party government did recognize the legality of the state of Israel – perhaps they were compelled to do so. But when the Esquivel United Democratic Party administration came to power in 1984, Belize became a pronounced supporter of Israel. Under Esquivel, Belize declared its pro-United States, pro-neoliberalism policy to the international community. And concerned Belizeans, like BREDDA and UBAD (United Black Association for Development), knew that the Belizean people were heading towards greater international dependency.

Then during the Musa PUP administration in 1998, there was a slight turn away from diplomatic support of Israel. But since gaining power in 2004, the Barrow UDP administration, with its diehard pro-West foreign minister, Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, has gone to great lengths to accommodate Israel within Belize’s body politic.

As noted by 7 News: “Israel and Belize have long had an uneasy relationship … But today [Nov. 16, 2009] in a surprise diplomatic move, Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington boldly cemented relations with Israel, allowing a visa waiver and a technical assistance program. We suspect that it is the kind of thing that could not have happened during the last government when Said Musa, who is of Palestinian descent, was the prime minister. But things change and Elrington today said the new pact will help Belize with knowledge.

Belize now has official diplomatic relations with one of the most loyal military allies of Guatemala. This is despite the fact that Israel refused to vote in our favor during the independence campaign. We are now showing affection to the state which provided arms and ammunitions that could have led to our dissolution as a nation. As Evan X Hyde wrote in The Publisher in January: “This makes no sense. The friend of my enemy cannot possibly be my friend.”

As the bombs fall on innocent Palestinians, it becomes obvious that our previous and current governments have wedded an unholy alliance with the occupiers of Palestine. By failing to break our current diplomatic relations with Israel, we are signaling our acceptance to the actions of Israel in the genocide that is unfolding before the eyes of the world.

We must not remain silent while Israel unleashes hell on unarmed civilians. Due to our historical experience we should be the most sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinians. We could have been the ones to experience the present state of terrorism plaguing the Palestinian people. This is a call for civil society organizations, civil servants, educators and academics to insist that Belize break its diplomatic relations with Israel.
