Belize zoo presents to you LUCHA the Belizean-American Jaguar

Several years ago, The Belize Zoo received Frankie, a problem jaguar from Franks Eddy Village in Central Belize. The residents of that village chose not to kill this amazing yet potentially dangerous wildcat, and asked the Zoo to intervene instead. Frankie passed through the Problem Jaguar Rehabilitation Program with flying colours, eventually finding a new home and new name (Jutai) in Philadelphia Zoo in the USA. Frankie even got a girlfriend named Kanga, and fathered a cub three years ago. Here is LUCHA, the Belizean-American Jaguar all grown up and living in the Los Angeles Zoo. He has become a handsome, powerful and proud jaguar like his father. A big thanks to Tammy Schidmt at Philadelphia Zoo for sharing this wonderful photo with us! We are so proud of Frankie and his family!

Zen Arcade Restaurant in San Pedro

Coming in from the Bowen and Bowen company I walked over to Zen Arcade Restaurant where the white fence is. It is pretty much updated with blue and white colored house and a roof top on the top for Yoga. It is a quiet area to relax and have a great breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The Zen Arcade is open from 7am until 7pm

This restaurant serves Chaya leaf as healthy serving and other salads of your choice. Chaya is good for your body for iron, vitamins and other sources your body actually needs. I like this more for ordering salads if your in a healthy diet. 

 If you look at the upgrading below the place seems to be very lovely to chill around and also join the Yoga on the roof top. Very unique the way how they designed it. You can  be pampered.

 From the porch above the atmosphere is very relaxing that you will enjoy the time while your their. While I'm waiting for my order I was enjoying the out door nature. What a lovely view from here. And it is not far from the beach. 

 The bar area is an area where you can sit back and relax while you see how they make the food. While I was  waiting for my order I got into a quick comfort on the waiting room by reading and hearing that sizzling sound of food while its being cooked the food smell just great. 

What I ordered  was based on Pork Boa with colsa and peanuts on the picture below. HMM delicious! It has that rich flavoring BBQ taste with two Cucumber on both sides and raping around is the tortilla and that colsa was very excellent. If your looking for a great restaurant in town I recommend Zen Arcade restaurant. I shall return. Great service, great food, its friendly staff come by to taste their excellent food in town. 

Puerto Azul Concerns about the island's development

This mega project Puerto Azul is seen critical by the public where the organizers are wanting to build on the two Northern Caye and Sanbore Caye which is located on the Lighthouse Reef Atoll. It was announced while Minister of Tourism Manuel Heredia Jr and Minister of Trade and Investment Erwin Contreras attend the French Cannes Film Festival in France. 

Their has not been a go ahead, but their where plans to examine the island. With the seven NGOs, including the Belize Tourism Industry Association, OCEANA, Healthy Reefs, World Wildlife Fund, Mar Alliance, APAMO and the Belize Audubon Society they joined together and  released a statement on the exact description of the presentation resort development project which was issued on Thursday. Even though the project is still willing to continue,  the confusion by the environmentalists are at cabinet's agreement by the multi-million dollar project. But during the event Trade and Economic Development, Erwin Contreras and the Minister of Tourism, Manuel Heredia along with his wife where photographed which made the cabinet to agree cautiously. This risky move to the condition of the island is based on the limited land resource which  has stakeholders not willing to move forward. 

 The plans for this  two island at the Light house Reef Atoll it will include the facilities as follows: airstrip, mega hotels, shopping malls, resort, golf course, villas, spa, restaurants and the 1,000 acre to be used, employ 1,000 people and make a fitting space for 2,000 people. But, with the high cost of living in Belize it will be one of the worthy luxuria living. But, what about the island's protected habitat? 

Since the discussion of the project, one year ago the planning of the project concerns Chief Environmentalist Martin Alegria is to see the fisheries and protected area to be destroyed. According Mike Singh he also mention that the island is to limited to build any structure in the island. It will affect the reef and the environment while it is being built. and is suppose to be kept on a level of  where the agreement can be made. With the opinion of Sing he thinks the project is to over extreme.

According to Amanda Acosta, Executive Director Belize Audubon Society her concern about Puerto Azul should not be given the go ahead as she explained: 

“Belize Audubon [Society] is very concerned about the proposed Puerto Azul development.  We do not feel that a mega-development of this nature is best suited for out in Lighthouse Reef Atoll. It’s in proximity so if you’re talking any kind of dredging, filling, you have to ask and beg what will happen to these lobster fishermen or conch fishermen.  They are dealing with invertebrates that are very sensitive to siltation, to any kinds of dredging and in addition we have tour guides. ”

Since the EIA was given permission, it was not yet been looked at by the Department of Environment. 

International Costa Maya and the Industria del Amor to present

Belize will be hosting the annual International Costa Maya Festival from August 7th – 9th, 2014 at the beautiful island of Ambergris Caye. The international Costa Maya is an annual event that no one wants to miss at this time around. With its  colorful decor lighted stage to the local and international dancers and with the help of the organizers this event puts on an entertaining event. This culture event brings back memory to music, culture traditional, clothing and much more for families to enjoy. Also their will be mechanic rides for the children. 

This traditional event is also known for the famous International Beauty Ambassador pageant also known as La Reina De La Costa Maya which will be held on Thursday, August 7th and Ramon's Village will be the hosting presenter resort for all of the Costa Maya participants. Participants will be from this countries in Central America Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Friday August 8th which will be a night full of laughter and acting show for the public.  One of the scheduled artist to present on the last night of the festival on Saturday, August 9 is well known as the Industria del Amor.

CONCACAF play-off to be held on Miami on September 10th, 2014

On June 2nd the announcement made by the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) BBVA enclosed Stadium in Houston, Texas, that will held a Central American Cup USA 2014 the three gamed on Wednesday, September 10 2014, where the last day the group of teams will play. Considering some of the groups where divided into five, four and seven respectively while the game will be held in Miami. The group that was selected Guyana’s Alpha United, Jamaica’s Water House FC and Belmopan Bandits from Belize.

The region championship in the Central American Cup for national teams, which will offer as a accomplishment series for 2015  CONCACAF Gold Cup  and the certain time of the Centennial Cup America 2016.

Puerto Azul luxury plans for the future and promises facilities building in the island

Puerto Azul luxury is a recent project that was released while Minister of Trade and Economic Development, Erwin Contreras and the Minister of Tourism, Manuel Heredia along with his wife where on a flashy party event with the French Riviera during a Cannes Film Festival. Not giving any information about the project or without the concept of approving the project with the people of Belize, the environmentalists are up in flames for viewing this recent project. The island is located on the Light house Reef Atoll which will have the facilities that will include the following: airstrip, mega hotels, shopping malls, resort, golf course, villas, spa, restaurants and all the likes, is being promised by Italian investors at the two Northern Caye close to the Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Sandbore.

 According to the C.E.O., Mike Singh this project is on a start roll, and is suppose to be kept on a level of  where the agreement can be made. With the opinion of Sing he thinks the project is to over extreme. He thinks that the project should first be accepted and where the land and environment could handle.  But, what about the the employments and guest that they want to bring in? In the result of the project their will be 1,000 guest and 2,000 working employees fitted in the project with a scale of 970 acres of land.   

In the discussion for the project, the permission was given to the project first to review the studies for the environment by Minister of Labor, Local Government, Rural Development and National Emergency Management and Immigration and Nationality Godwin Hulse. The finishing of the project is schedule to be completed by December of 2017 if there are no impediments or limitation by the Government.

Sing mentioned that it is just a waste of matter to continue this project. In the environmental impact you should look at the destruction of the reef and land and materials where the project will be built can harm the land. But, Sing defends Minister Contreras to continue looking at the fact to develop the island.  What can they do if any land was not given by a Realtor? It is clear that Contreras went to the event to meet with the people where the launch was made for the development for the newly project in French Riviera.

Art Skills Training Project for children in Belize City

Yesterday's meeting, NICH along with the endure of the Republic of China (Taiwan) released a Primary School Art Skills Training Project for children in Belize City. Present at the meeting, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) presented a check which was given to the President of the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), Ms. Diane C. Haylock. 

This donation is help is to support an new beginning for the implementation of a Primary Schools Art Skills Training Pilot Project (PSAST). The check was an sum of BZ$35,206 that was endowed by First Secretary, Amino Chi on behalf of His Excellency David C.K. Wu, Ambassador to Belize from the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The duly project will offer training in art skills to selected students of primary school from various schools around Belize City and it will run for an occurring period of six months from July through December 2014.

The PSAST Project is a journey in speaking the critical need to higher the accessibility and affordability of creative arts programs for the children of Belize. The cover objective of the program is to make opportunities available for exactly  50 students in Belize City primary schools to higher their abilities to express themselves on creating through training in a structured art and craft programme.

The programme will be directed by Ms. Fiona Huang, a Taiwanese artist and art instructor living in Belize who will be on a voluntary basis has been providing art classes to St. Joseph and Holy Redeemer Schools. Through the PSAST, we want students from other schools to benefit as well. It is schedule to commence on July 1st, 2014 at the Department of Youth Services on Regent Street.

100 Garbage containers where donated to the Town of San Pedro

Yesterday an anonymous donor donated one Hundred garbage containers for the town of San Pedro. The garbage containers where painted colorfully and had San Pedro Town Council slogan "Keep La Isla Bonita Clean" to promote the awareness on having a cleaner and better San Pedro. We advise the public to keep La Isla Bonita clean and practice cleaner environment. Since they where donated for the town I went for a walk this morning and saw the garbage containers along the beach. These containers where placed at the parks, along Boca del Rio Drive and other designated locations around town. Let's  use this garbage container  as it suppose to be used and take proper care of this containers.

Its very attractive to see updates on the new containers. It is very costly but if we support the cleaning of the island you might help the island to be a better island. Take a look at this  containers taken this morning:

Music Jam growth in Belize

In the past 15 years music in Belize the music such as Dancehall and reggae music have been growing dramatically.Two main Popular in the Dancehall with two of its fans being brothers Jayme and Mark Ermeav, better  known as Boom Bangaz. 

The creation couple live permanently in Florida where they have earned an beneath following by mixing out the remixes which they upload through social media, specifically on their Soundcloud page.

Their recent release is the song Bredrin Girl by deejay Chan Dizzy, best known in Jamaica for the songs, Strange Face and Hello Bad Mind, the link with Chan Dizzy was good, Working with him felt natural and the vibe was right," said Mark, older of the brothers.

Discussing their new music as a blend of dance hall, reggae and hip hop, the brothers are looking for the breakthrough on American pop radio.

"We bring a mainstream fusion sound to the game. We blend dancehall with other genres to give it a more hip and marketable sound," Mark explained. "We want our music to be felt not only in the Caribbean or by Caribbean people living abroad, but by Americans and Europeans who have not yet connected with dancehall music."

Boom Bangaz was organized in 2013. 37 year old Mark and 25-year-old Jayme  got the round ball rolling with a great remix for Ex Boyfriend by Belizean artiste Tanya Carter.

The 'Bangaz' Originally from Belize City, mentioned the brothers they got to see dancehall and reggae in their teens.

They are planning to create a amount of remixes throughout the summer and work again with Chan Dizzy.

The Belize dancehall play has picked-up noticeably in the last decade. Beenie Man, Bugle, Tommy Lee and Tiana are some of the few artistes who have performed in the Central American country.

Dean Barrow attended the IDB President meeting in Washington D.C.

The Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow went for a visit at Washington this week to met with the officials at the Inter-American Development Bank.

The reason for this meeting were a discussion with Barrow held talks with IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno to discuss “Belize’s relationship with the bank and priority areas of collaboration,” according to a statement from the IDB.

On both sides discussion about the bank’s newly-approved country plans with Belize, which will provide the IDB’s work in Belize over the next four years.

The bank mention the plan “aims to support the Government of Belize in improving public expenditure efficiency and effectiveness and promoting private sector development and sustainable export-led growth, by concentrating on four priority areas: education,tourism, transport and trade and tax policy.”

On both sides more discussion on the previous economic developments in the country, tourism, agriculture and the bank’s 2014 lending programme with Belize.

The IDB has been sustained projects in Belize since the country joined together with the bank as a borrowing member back in 1992. The recent IDB’snportfolio in Belize contained five loans a sum of $38 million.

Exporting must comply with international standards

The Caribbean Export head written down that in addition to Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) quantity, exporters must also meet the technical barriers to trade requirements which cover such areas as food labelling, nutritional claims and packaging, which have implications for the Caribbean private sector.

The Executive Director contended that unless regional firms comply with international standards, they will be forced to the local and regional markets, which are also open to imports which create competition for those products.

“It is therefore required that all players with the command to support the private sector development must play their role in getting our securely equipped to pass through export markets. Firms need to be made aware of the issues that affect them, they need financial and technical assistance with meeting the new and emerging global food safety requirements and they also need continued efforts at both export development and promotion,” she added.

Coke Hamilton’s comments came to her as she wrote down that several CARIFORUM securely that have already been achieved success in the export market. Among them, she declear are Banks Holdings from Barbados, Marie Sharpe from Belize and Baron Foods from St. Lucia, which were awarded the coveted Taste 13 Award at ANUGA 2013 – the largest food and beverage trade show in the world. “This is testimony to the fact that we have world class brands doing business every day in our region. Dean Barrow Leaves the country for personal duties

The Office of the Prime Minister informs that the Hon. Dean Barrow departed the country on personal/duty leave during the period 27th May – 3rd June, 2014, to Houston, Texas and Washington, D.C., U.S.A.

During the Prime Minister’s absence, the Hon. Gaspar Vega, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Agriculture will act as Prime Minister from 27th – 31st May, 2014 and the Hon. John Saldivar, Minister of National Security will act as Prime Minister from 31st May, 2014, until his return on 3rd June, 2014.

Export Market secured by Qualter Hall to help Belize

YORKSHIR an engineer resolute is assisting to create a rope-hauled railway system, as the export market share grows. Since 1860 Barnsley-based Qualter Hall was developed and for most of its history, assisted services for the depth mining industry. In the past recent years, the company, which has £20m in accountant and 140 staff, has distributed into specialist machinery sectors, to help it to fight off the threat from overseas competitors, and move forward into global markets.

International orders now account for more than 25 per cent of Qualter Hall’s total business.

It has secured work on a rope hauled its tension railway system which is bound for South Korea.

Other international projects include the design and supply of specialist road bridges for Indonesia and Belize, mining equipment for Morocco, shipyard machines for plate bending and forming for Baku, China, Korea and the US.

Qualter Hall has previously completed a major project to design, manufacture, supply, install and commission the operating package for the 50m long swing footbridge at Shoreham in West Sussex. Qualter Hall’s manager director, George Orton, said: “Qualter Hall’s strength is its dedicated, experienced and highly skilled personnel.We also continue to implement an apprenticeship programme which allows us to bring additional employment opportunities to young budding engineers and tradesmen of South Yorkshire.

“Over the last number of years, we have strategically and carefully invested over £8m in our company through acquisitions, and extending our facilities for both carbon steel and stainless steel manufacture.

He added: “From this position of strength, we will strive to move forward with our ongoing business plans and objectives.”

June 1st Opening for Hurricane season approaching

Hurricane season is coming to a beginning on June 1st and ending on November 30. In order to be prepared for a hurricane you must listen to your radio, prepare for floods, listen to shelter areas, carry your personal disaster kit, protect your pet.

On NHC the weather advice an update on Amanda late yesterday.  It weakened yesterday to a maximum wind forty miles per hour wind.

But what will happen in the future days? Well on the look at the Pacific ocean on Friday Morning (today) where there is a disturbance.  It was formed few hundred miles southeastern of Mexico.

As the Caribbean and the elsewhere are preparing for Hurricane season it is now the time to start looking at weather closely.

Crime Stopper meeting held in San Pedro

Crime is rising and the tourist among our community is decreasing. What can we do to decrease crime? This is a question all are asking. Today, we as the community should work together as one. The more guns are heard the more we as a community will continue fighting against crime. It is the observation of the community  to watch the area of their neighbor; where they live in the area. 

On Thursday May 28^th a meeting was held in Lion’s Den along with the Ex-officer Rudolph Orio regarding COPS. As members from businesses, teachers, Mayor Daniel Guerrero, council members, OC Castellanos and the public attended the meeting. Orio was working with the community to stop crime in Belize from 1988- 1997. 

  Orio explained the only way this could stop is to let the community work together and ensure the crime should stop now. People need to be aware of their surrounding and not being to comfort only making money. The island is divided by zone areas where community watch is being work to make this island safer.

According to Rudolph Orio he wants this program to be well structured program within the community. Having the boots around town to lessen the crime. Volunteer's will be trained with law basic procedure and observation technique's. While on training no citizen will have the empowerment to arrest people but only to use the intelligent and observation. 

Crime in Belize is one big problem and not only Belize. A recent meeting Mayor Daniel attended with other Mayor's in the Caribbean, they tried to organized a job creation to lessen the crime. Crime statics where discussed throughout the Caribbean region. Crime is not only being seen in Belize but around the world. 

It is not only the job of the police 100%, but the help of the public to report any suspiciousness being seen in the island.  As each council and officer in charged,  including the Mayor made their speech. It was a tight meeting between the speakers and the people argument discussion on how children could avoid this type of problems, especially when the town is dealing with the drugs, alcohol, and other drug uses.

 It was mentioned by the Minister of Health that an insights program was made for the children in school three years ago. A contract is made with the school when a child made an first time offence. It is then taken to the Minister of Education if a drug is caught in school. One person said in the meeting, Where are the drugs? everyone knows where is drugs but police has not done anything about it. Orio mentioned you should reported it immediately to the police if any drug where seen in their area.  

OC Castellanos explained that the volunteer persons should atleast volunteer for 4 hours a week. He will work with the community if they participate. Orio is begging the community to step up and stand up for the community to make the island safer all he needs is the help. As a Belizean Leader politician and a member of the People's United Party, Minister Marcial Mes severed as a Minister on Rural Development and Culture from 1998- 2001, in 2001- 2003 he entered in  Rural Development, Minister of Human Development, Local Government, and Labour from 2003 to dated 2005.

On May 26, 2014, Mes died in a road traffic accident in the rural Toledo District, Leader of the main opposition People’s United Party (PUP), Francis Fonseca has paid condolence to former minister Marcial Mes, after his death announcement. 

Sixty-Five year old Mes along with his neighbor Mario Caal from San Marcos, 46, were  heading home in Punta Gorda when Mes was driving his green pick up Toyota, while driving in the area of Yemeri Grove village, Mes lost control of his vehicle and head on to a cement culvert. It happened in the wee hours at 1:15am on May 26th 2014. They sustained serious injuries. Police are investigating and unwilling to give any feedback. Mes leaves to mourn his wife and six children.

According to Francis Fonseca “He was the first full Mayan Belizean to serve in the cabinet, something he was always proud of and we will remember him most of all his absolute dedication to the people on the Southern Belize."He was an educator as well. Many people will forget that he was a teacher and a principal in Toledo. So he has lived a very, very good life, a life of service to his country, a life of service to his people in Toledo and a life of service to our party."
