Hershey's is launching its first new candy: Soft caramel

Hershey's is launching its first new candy brand in 30 years. Its Lancaster caramels will come in three flavors: caramel; vanilla and caramel; and vanilla and raspberry. The Hershey Co. is launching a new candy brand, its first new brand in 30 years, a soft caramel creme line called Lancaster. And for the first time it is taking a double barreled approach, debuting the candy in the U.S. and China at once.

 

The move comes as China increasingly becomes a focus for U.S.-based consumer goods companies that are seeking to offset slower growth in developed markets like North America. Hershey, which makes candy such as Kit Kat, Twizzlers and Hershey's Kisses, said its most recent quarter that new products in both the U.S. and overseas helped its net income rise 18 percent.

 

"China and the U.S. are major focus markets for the company," said Steven Schiller, senior vice president of sweets and refreshment. China is the second largest sweets market behind the U.S., he added.The Lancaster name stems from founder Milton Hershey's first candy company, The Lancaster Caramel Co. founded in 1886. And the candy comes after two-and-a-half years of research into consumer tastes and the global confectionary market.

Preventing Cancer:

7. If you know that a substance has been linked to cancer; try to avoid coming in contact with that substances which may cause cancer.

9. See your doctor if you have persistent problem, such as cough which does not go awy. Persistent hoarsensess, change in bowel or urinary habitsor sudden weight loss.
10. Women should check their breast for lunps regulary, especially after menstration. Get your breast exams by doctor and get regukar mamograms, starting age 40.
11. Men over 50 years are at high risk of developing prostate cancer. See your doctor and find if you need to get tested.

Increase Statics in Belize Tourist Arrivals

The Belize Tourism Board has just released tourism statistics from January to August 2013 that indicate that the year started off with exceptional overnight arrivals and statistic show an increase in arrivals throughout the year compared to 2012.

January, February, and March of this year saw 17.2%, 14.3%, and 13.0% increases, respectively, when compared to last year’s overnight arrivals. Arrivals for July and August did not disappoint. There was an estimated increase of 8% for both months. Overall, the period of January – August 2013 saw roughly 17,228 more visitors than 2012.

The chart below shows the arrivals of overnight visitors from January through to August of 2012 and 2013. Arrivals this year, thus far, have surpassed 2012 for every month, except April. Overall, overnight visitors have increased by 8.7%. With these numbers, Belize is well on its way to making the 300,000 overnight visitors mark.

Cruise tourism got off to a promising start this year. January 2013 saw an increase of 19.4% compared to 2012. February, March, and April also saw encouraging increases. Cruise arrivals fell for May, June, and July, but made an outstanding recovery in August with a 30.2% increase over August 2012. Overall, cruise is performing at a 5.3% increase over last year.

With border figures still pending for July and August, these figures are an estimate for the period of January to August, 2013. An update for the first three quarters of 2013 will be issued shortly.

An employee of the Customs in Belize , Javier Guerra Delmar Tun , was wounded by gun fire between the lower jaw and ear left side , in what possibly was a failed attempt to execution , because apparently the alleged assassin was the weapon jammed when he tried to make a second shot , he fled in a taxi which arrived .

 Jorge Alfredo Andrade Azueta , 364 taxi driver , was arrested on suspicion coparticipate suspect in this attack , recorded Monday afternoon in the restaurants in the town of Calderitas . Apparently the Belizean Customs is dedicated to drug dealing in their country of origin , so that the police indicated that their main line of research is an attempt to settle accounts of organized crime.

What could be a failed attempt to run was recorded Monday afternoon , at approximately 16:50 hours on the street with Tabasco and Yucatan, Oaxaca , in the community of Calderitas , restaurant next to the Manatee Sanctuary , in the restaurants .

In this place came first state police who were nearby, then judicial , municipal and paramedics Unit Emergency Medical Response ( Urem ) , the latter who immediately gave first aid to the injured and taken to General Hospital Chetumal , it had a wound caused by impact of gun fire between the lower jaw and left side ear .

 Data collected at the scene it was established that Delmar Tun Javier Guerra , about 41 years old , originally from Belize and Customs employee that Caribbean country , asked the taxi service Azueta Jorge Alfredo Andrade , 29 , who was for him the Walmart shopping center in the colony center state capital.

 

He asked her to take him to the restaurant The Manatee Sanctuary in Calderitas community where some people had said , so boarded the cab Chevrolet Spark, economic numbered license plates 364 and 64-60 , TPB , which moved up the street with Tabasco and Oaxaca Yucatan avenue .
Data provided also eyewitnesses to the facts establish that the Belizean sat on the bench under the shade of a tree , next to the aforementioned restaurant, while the taxi driver was standing and received a call, and informants claimed to have heard when the ruletero answered "yes , here it is green, we are waiting ," and hung up.

He spent less than a minute when a taxi , which indicate the characteristics not to remember , much less economic and plate number , which continued long, parked around the curve and down a subject of between 18-20 years old, thin, light brown skin , 1.70 tall, who wore striped shirt , pants and hat all blue .He went running to where he sat Delmar Tun Javier Guerra , who placed a square type gun toward the nape of the left side , about 5 or 10 feet away and shot him .

 Informants narrated that observed when the alleged gunman tried to shoot a second time, but the gun was jammed , and had no more to flee in haste and boarded the taxi in which he came and fled immediately, what they asked for support because the Belizean bleeding profusely from the mouth.
According Urem paramedics , the Belizean presented a wound caused by gun fire between the lower jaw and right side ear , but he was conscious , and he was taken to the General Hospital for proper medical care.

 Delmar Tun Javier Guerra could hardly speak , and told the soldiers be Belizean birth and working in the Caribbean country Customs , who was accompanied by Jorge Alfredo Andrade Azueta , 29 , taxi driver 364, with 64 plates - 60 - TPB , the latter said that today serves injured constant .
The ruletero mentioned that Monday afternoon ''I phoned to ask for the service and then to Walmart Calderitas village , next to the restaurant The Manatee Sanctuary .''

Unlike the version of the eyewitnesses , Andrade Azueta the Belizean reported that there was expected by a subject of build , dark complexion, medium height, same hat wearing blue jeans and striped shirt of the same color .

He said ''the guy approached him Delmar Javier and fired the shot , and as the driver , trying to make another shot , he threw his cell phone and ran aggressor'' , which witnesses said did not happen.
Although local police , state and judicial unable to locate the suspect , much less the taxi where he fled because they had no features of this unit , Azueta Andrade was arrested by investigators, who assured him five cell , three carried and two others were in the taxi .

All indications are that it was an attempt to run , as the State Judicial Police have ruled out an assault treated , so it will be in the coming hours to report thereon of its research .Note that this execution attempt caused fear among the residents and merchants of the town, by the bloody events that have occurred in recent days , and fear that what happened this afternoon it is a settling of accounts between drug traffickers and that scenes like this are repeated constantly.

Also witnessed the attack reported that a child of about five years old playing in the sand, a few inches from where I was the Belizean and said that if the alleged assassin had failed, possibly the child had been injured .Note that unofficially you could find Javier Guerra Tun Delmar engages in retail drug sales in the country of Belize , so it looks like it was a settling of scores between " shooters " .

Saga Humane Society Helping Paws

Saga Humane Society is pleased to announce an October SNIP-a-thon.During the month of October Saga HS will be hosting two different visiting Veterinary groups to hold free spay/neuter clinics for the low income residents of Ambergris Caye. In addition to the free spay/neuters the teams will be doing additional CDV vaccinations, and dog training sessions for public. The goal is to sterilize over 300 island pets during the month.

Helping Paws Across Borders will be in San Pedro Oct. 7-10. They will be bringing a team of 15 including Veterinarians, Vet Techs, and dog trainers. This group will focus their efforts on the neighborhoods of DFC, San Juan and Downtown. Because of limited space at the Saga HS clinic, MASH (Mobile Animals Surgical Hospital)type clinic will be held in DFC at Mrs. Adaly Ayuso. This will allow the medical teams to be closer to the animals and save the time and expense of transportation to the Saga HS clinic.

 Helping Paws Across Boarders stated goal is to reach out to other countries and make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected companion animals. Supply medicine and medical equipment to local Animal Shelters. To educate local clinic volunteer’s in shelter medicine. Stop overpopulation of companion animals in undeveloped countries. Be available to assist in spay and neuter clinics when and where we might be needed. Interacting with the local children and making animal welfare educational material available to them.

Hopkins Humane Society will be in San Pedro Oct. 18-21. They will be bringing a team including Veterinarians and Vet Techs. This group will focus on San Mateo. More details to come.

A Teenager Crushed by a Rock Crusher

A fourteen year old boy was killed after accidentally falling into a crusher. He is one of the  community residence from Shipyard in Orange Walk District. The heavy equipment is used to grind white mall and was oporated at a quarry at shipyard at the time by 14 year old Peter Reimer. Peter Reimer was working there for only one year. On Thursday He was in Charge for working on the machine to ensure if it was working properly. At around ten on Thursday morning Reimer did not follow rules and regulaion and that was when he feel on the machine. After Three hours trapped in the crusher, his body was taken out from the crusher and was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital. His family are awaiting on his body to say their final goodbye. Peter's body is being examened by authorities and family awaites for his bodyto be transported at the Reimer's residence. A short wake will be on Sunday as they give him his final words.

 

A witness say that the Machine was getting empty, he went to look for more White Mal with the excavator to fill up the machine and that is when the accident happened. For what was told the Operator was not on the site at the time as he left the the compound leaving 14 year old Reimer and 12 year old child at the operating machine. 12 year old boy saw that Reimer was very impatient working at the site working in a manner tripping and falling on the machine when finding shortcuts working on the machine. He tripped on the machine and fell in the crusher all what the 12 year old could have done is call for help. His body was smashed by the machine.  A rope was used to rap around him, the machine was turning Backwards and machine was pulling him out to take out his body.

Conch Season Re-opens in Belize

Queen Conch can easily be Identified by its large pinkish shell, reaching a length of 30 cm and weighing about 2 kg. The conch is known by the Mayas which is know today. On october 1, 2013 the opening of the conch season and it overlapse with the Lobser season which closes on Febraury 15. Conch Season is a season many can't wait to enjoy the delicous Conch in Belize. Fishermen goes out on the sea to capture this crustacean meat and is removed out of their shell, clean them and sell the meat for different variety of uses in food. Conch can be use in familiar food such as Conch Chowder, Conch Fritter, Conch Soup, Conch Ceviche, Conch Pizza, Conch Stew. Since the Conch season was closed 2 month early because a distressing of the conch, now everyone will enjoy a good time eating conch for this Conch Season. Since the reopning fishermen went early for their conch. Fishermem will go out and Capture this famous sea food for those who like to enjoy the meat and you can get them at any restaurant in town or any fishermen who sells fish. It is a tenderize meat that everyone enjoys to eat. The shells are used for sovienir's, Ornaments, Decoration and useful for arts and craft. The first conchs were British sympathizers. Some accounts indicate they were given the name of conch after escaping to the Bahamas during the American Revolution and announcing that rather than go to war they'd eat conch.

Cancer

Cancer is known as a malignant neoplasm unregulated cells. Cancer can be detected in a number of ways, including the presence of certain signs and symptoms, screening tests, or medical imaging. 1.a cancerous cell manages to move throughout the body using the blood or lymph systems, destroying healthy tissue in a process called invasion

2.that cell manages to divide and grow, making new blood vessels to feed itself in a process called angiogenesis.

Not all environmental causes are controllable, such as naturally occurring background radiation, and other cases of cancer are caused through hereditary genetic disorders. It is not possible to prevent all cases of cancer. Aspiri has been found to reduce the risk of death from cancer by about 7%. The survival rates vary dramatically by type of cancer, with the range running from basically all people surviving to almost no one surviving.People with a "cancer personality"—depressed, repressed, self-loathing, and afraid to express their emotions—were believed to have manifested cancer through subconscious desire. increases patients' anxiety, as they incorrectly believe that natural emotions of sadness, anger or fear shorten their lives.Typically, these are studied in clinical trials to compare the proposed treatment to the best existing treatment.

Breast Cancer is formed by breast tissue the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply the ducts with milk. Radiation is used after breast-conserving surgery and substantially improves local relapse rates and in many circumstances also overall survival.Symptoms may resemble a breast inflammation and may include itching, pain, swelling, nipple inversion, warmth and redness in the breast. Metastatic disease Unexplained weight loss can occasionally herald an occult breast cancer, as can symptoms of fevers or chills, Bone pain, joint pains.

New symptom should be taken seriously by both patients and their doctors. Healthcare provider and mammography, can offer an approximate likelihood that a lump is cancer, and may also detect some other lesions, such as a simple cyst. Blood are sent out for inspection in breast cancer. The fluid is removed and is sent out for sample analysis by ahealthcare provider. The results of a physical examination by a health care is very often performed in special Circumstances in Mammography, biopsy as the definitive diagnostic and primary treatment method.

Mangroves in Belize

Mangrove forests support a wealth of life, from starfish to people, and may be more important to the health of the planet than we ever realized. Mangrove swamps are found in tropical and subtropical tidal areas Across the globe the location of mangroves usually runs parallel to coral reefs. Mangroves are trees that do not grow fruits or nuts, they are not the ideal for shade or breeze. Areas where mangal occurs include estuaries and marine shorelines.These plants are also landbuilders par excellence.  The mangrove biome, or mangal, is a distinct saline woodland or shrubland habitat characterized by depositional coastal environments, where fine sediments. The unique ecosystem found in the intricate mesh of mangrove roots offers a quiet marine region for young organisms. Coral Reefs are less effected when Mangrove purify the water from human wastes and pollutants. Red, White and Black Mangroves can be found in Belize. It takes over 50 years for it to be mature.

Propagules- Seed pods that grow on the end of roots, when the pods ripen, it falls from the ground, rot and a new tree comes out. The plants' interlocking roots stop riverborne sediments from coursing out to sea, and their trunks and branches serve as a palisade that diminishes the erosive power of waves. Though the trees themselves are few in species, the ecosystem these trees create a home for a great variety of other organisms. Shrimps and mud lobsters use the muddy bottoms as their home and crabs feeds on the mangrove leaves.

Red mangroves which can survive in the most inundated areas, prop themselves above the water level with stilt roots and can then absorb air through pores in their bark. Red mangroves exclude salt by having significantly impermeable roots which are highly suberised, an ultrafiltration mechanism to exclude sodium salts from the rest of the plant. Analysis of water inside mangroves has shown 90% to 97% of salt has been excluded at the roots.

Black mangroves-live on higher ground and make many pneumatophores. The "breathing tubes" typically reach heights of up to 30 cm, and in some species, over 3 m. It is structure like a straw sticking out of the grown for air.

White mangroves- White mangroves produces a fruit with a sapling inside.   White mangrove can excrete or push out the salt from its system through hundreds of pores on its leaves. Salty water is excreted from the tiny pores. The water then evaporates The leaves are round at the base and the tip and smooth underneath. Also, they are thick with a leathery feel. The thickness and leathery-ness of the leaves help to keep moisture in the tree.

Today Mangrove has a huge major in the environmental in the costal line. It is increasingly showing in some major towns like  Belize and Ambergris Caye. Development is seen more on demand on the coastal lines where once a Mangroves was. But to control this , Without a permit granted by the Department of Fisheries, it is illegal to clear any Mangrove by both valuable ecosystem and the amount of mangrove protected areas.

Miss Philippines Megan Young takes the crown

Miss Philippines Megan Young won the title of Miss World on last week Saturday, beating 126 contestants from around the globe. She is the first woman from the Philippines to win the beauty competition. "Thank you so much to everyone for choosing me to be the next Miss World," Young said just after the crowning in Bali, Indonesia. "I promise to be the best Miss World ever."
The 23-year-old digital filmmaking student was born in the United States but moved to the Philippines at the age of 10. She has starred in films and television shows since she was a teenager, and would like to work behind the camera as a director after she finishes school, according to her pageant profile.
During the interview portion of the competition, the contestants were asked to describe why they should become the next Miss World. Wearing a pale pink gown, Young expressed her desire to "show other people how they can understand each other" and her belief that "as one we shall help society."
Former Miss Scotland Jennifer Reoch and Irish television presenter Kamal Ibrahim hosted the 63rd annual competition, which kicked off with an opening ceremony in Jakarta on Sept. 8th. The ladies participated in seven preliminary rounds and challenge events with categories like “beach fashion,” “beauty with a purpose,” “top model,” and "sports and fitness."

Last year’s pageant winner was Miss China Wenxia Yu, a music student who said she would like to go into teaching. The event was hosted at Dongsheng Stadium in the northeastern city of Ordos, China.

 

 



Mud Island was create by Earthquake

On Tuesday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck a remote part of western Pakistan, killing more than 260 people and displacing hundreds of thousands. It also triggered formation of a new island off the coast, which has quickly become a global curiosity. But scientists say the island won't last long. "It's a transient feature," said Bill Barnhart, a research geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey. "It will probably be gone within a couple of months. It's just a big pile of mud that was on the seafloor that got pushed up."

 

Indeed, such islands are formed by so-called mud volcanoes, which occur around the world, and Barnhart and other scientists suspect that's what we're seeing off the Pakistani coast.

News organizations have reportedthat the Pakistani island suddenly appeared near the port of Gwadar after the quake. The island is about 60 to 70 feet (18 to 21 meters) high, up to 300 feet (91 meters) wide, and up to 120 feet (37 meters) long, reports the AFP. Media reports have located the new island at just a few paces to up to two kilometers off the coast of Pakistan. It is about 250 miles (400 kilometers) from the epicenter of the earthquake.

 

The island appears to be primarily made out of mud from the seafloor, although photos show rocks as well, Barnhart told National Geographic. He has has been studying images and media accounts of the new island from his lab in Golden, Colorado."It brought up a dead octopus, and people have been picking up fish on [the island]," he said.A similar mud island appeared off Pakistan after a 2011 earthquake there, Barnhart said: "It lasted a month or two and then washed away."

How Mud Volcanoes Work

 

Though mud volcanoes have been seen elsewhere, they don't always produce islands.

Such volcanoes were seen in California after a 2010 earthquake, Barnhart noted, when the tremors caused carbon dioxide to bubble up through the ground, but the result was "vigorous boiling," not new islands.Barnhart said Pakistani scientists will soon be measuring the new landmass to better understand how it formed."We don't know much about it so far," he added. "We haven't had a satellite pass over it yet to really identify it."

 

Seismic waves from the quake likely caused some fluid material under the seafloor to expand, Barnhart said. The crust holding that pressurized fluid ruptured, and mud spewed up.

The whole process is similar to liquefaction, Barnhart said, which is when seismic waves turn normally solid layers of soil into a flowing fluid, often with disastrous results for the buildings and people above.He was skeptical of media reports that the underlying fluid was methane hydrates.

"We don't know exactly what this was, whether it was free methane, carbon dioxide, water, or some other kind of fluid," he said. But methane hydrates are offshore in much deeper water, he said.

 

A Local Event

 

Although earthquakes have been known to radically reshape coastlines, the mud volcano off Pakistan is highly localized, Barnhart said. The epicenter was too far from the coast to cause any widespread changes, and the earthquake was the wrong type to cause big uplifts.A 9.5-magnitude earthquake off Chile in 1960 pushed whole villages several feet up in the air. But that was from a dip-slip earthquake, when tectonic plates are colliding vertically.This week's Pakistan earthquake was a strike-slip type, meaning there was only movement horizontally.

Consejo Road is finally been fix

Consejo Village Residence is happy to hear that the road was finally fix. After The road was under water for days. Two weeks ago the north part of Corozal got a heavy rain fall that flooded the road that reached 2 feet high. And the story doesn't ends here. When the water rose the garbage on mile two stood up on top of the water. The water reached to a point that only large vehicles could pass. Nemo was alerted on the north part of Corozal that they concentrate on the Consejo Shore road to fix it well. The road's use is used minimal by Students, workers, villager's, that travel daily to Corozal Town. It is difficult for some to reach to Corozal Town. Small vehicles in the road could be seen that they couldn't pass because of mud puddle being made. "We tried to scraped the road since that it hasn't rained for the past 72 hours. We cannot do much at this time because the road was still wet and we are still in the hurricane season. Unfortunatley, do not get distract that the road will get fix quite well. We are still in the hurricane season and the public needs to be aware that even if it is fix fold condition appears. We are trying our best to fix the road , we know that when it rains water levels rises, but this time we can only fix the road until hurricane season is over. Nemo of Corozal Willard Levy said.

There is another problem being obsereved in the Consejo Road is the Garbage dump. Villagers were dissapointed of foolded roads now the Garbage dump is an issue on the Consejo Road. Everyday Villagers use that road and they seen how trashy it may look. Since the road has been flooded after the heavy rains in the last few days. Nemo of Corozal says that the health problem may be one of which to be, because a lot of bacteria, chemicals, and things we do not know may give the people health problem. Corozal Nemo Levy said that as the heath conditions we are trying to make the Minister of Health and Minister of work to see the conditions of the Garbage dump. At this moment Garbage is dumbed else because of the wet condition of the surrounding area. Until the place is dried up Minister of Health and works will then decide what will be done. On the Domnguez Layout it was only dump for one day. we cannot do nothing at this moment on the old dump until the water is dried up. we are doing this in the sense for no more bacteria grow for health issues and dump is taken else. Levy Said.

Garbage found on Caye Caulker and San Pedro Coast Line

Everyday we enjoy the beach in San Pedro and the majority times we see the beach clean. But this week it all change for the residence of San Pedro and Caye Caulker. This week a report came in that Garbage was seen floating on the water on Caye Caulker late wednesday evening. Some areas were completely covered by Garbage in some beach areas, including the Split. On the Western Part of Caye Caulker some areas were cover as well with garbage. Ressdence in Caye Caulker are questioning what may had brought this garbage to shore. Chairman of Caye Caulker Villag said "The garbage started washing up late on Wednesday evening. This morning when we woke up it was worse – very disastrous." Residence in Caulker are worried at this time, because they depend on tourism and now that is slow season they don't want the tourist to see the beach filled with garbage. At this moment Caye Caulker residence are working on forming a campaign to clean the garbage and countinue their normal living.

In San Pedro has not much debry in the island, but  some part of the beach areas can still be visible by Garbage. in the island is not a surprise that this has happened before. Garbage that was seen in San Pedro and Caye Caulker was bottles, cans, covers, sticks and more. Everyday the beach was clean all day every and not much they could have done since more and more Garabge wash on shore. The Department of the Environment was notified late Wednesday evening, and Thursday September 26, they dispatched a team of personnel to investigate the situation. San Pedro depends on Tourism and the Belize Tourism Board was notified and they are planning to poolassist in cleaning up the Garbage over the weekend.

This Garbage floating in the water, is not coming from the cruise ships which was looked at over the Belize Port. In Honduras heavy rain in subtropical may had push water and debry down to the Belize River. This may had cause by flooding or heavy rain in higher grounds, high tides when river run off or when a boat filled with garbage was passing infront of  Belize and some garbage may had fallen of the boat and washed onshore.

Traffic flow may increase over the weekend

The public is hereby informed that over the on Friday, September 27 and Sunday, September 29, 2013, The road will be used port and southern end of of San Pedro. Two dump truck will be utilizing the rroad two ton dump trucks will be utilizing the roadways between port and the southern end of San Pedro Town, and the site of the new Sunset Boardwalk and Water Taxi Terminal at the Saca Chispas Football Field.
The trucks will transport large loads of fill material and some temporary public inconvenience through traffic congestion, noise and dust is expected. Please be assured that every effort will be made to minimize disruption to normal traffic flow and any inconvenience caused.
